ExpandAbilities Launches Weekly Content Initiative to Redefine Athlete Development on Youtube

Valparaiso, IN — A new voice in athlete development is emerging from the midwest, and it’s coming from an unexpected place: the everyday moments inside classrooms and on practice fields.

ExpandAbilities, an education-based platform focused on inclusive growth and mental performance, has officially launched a weekly YouTube content initiative aimed at redefining how athletes, coaches, and educators approach development.

Led by CEO/Founder Alex Dolgner, and Director of Mental Performance Robert Harris, the initiative centers on a simple concept: the most important lessons in sports aren’t always taught during games—they happen in the daily interactions, challenges, and conversations that shape athletes over time.

A New Approach to Athlete Development

Rather than focusing on highlights, rankings, or performance metrics, ExpandAbilities is shifting attention to the “in-between moments”—communication, confidence, accountability, and emotional awareness.

Each week, Dolgner and Harris introduce a central theme, with daily YouTube Shorts (Monday through Friday) that connect real-life experiences from the classroom and practice field to meaningful lessons for athletes and those who support them.

“There’s a gap between what people think development is and what it actually looks like day to day,” Dolgner said. “We’re trying to show that development happens in the small moments—how you communicate, how you respond, how you carry yourself.”

Rooted in Real Experience

What sets ExpandAbilities apart is its foundation in lived experience. Dolgner serves as a special education teacher, and Harris serves as a high school counselor. Dolgner and Harris both coach football and wrestling, giving them daily exposure to the academic, social, and emotional challenges athletes face.

This dual role allows the content to bridge multiple environments—education, athletics, and mental wellness—creating a more complete picture of development.

Weekly topics in the series include:

  • Communication and accountability
  • Confidence and identity
  • Leadership and team culture
  • Mental health and handling pressure

Each video is designed to be short, practical, and directly applicable to real-life situations.

More Than Content—A Growing Platform

The YouTube initiative is part of a broader vision for ExpandAbilities, which continues to evolve into a platform offering:

  • Educational resources for coaches and teachers
  • Social-emotional learning tools tied to athletics
  • Community-driven discussions through the ExpandAbilities MEETS podcast
  • Membership opportunities for continued learning through Patreon

By documenting real scenarios and turning them into teachable insights, the platform aims to create resources that can be used across schools, teams, and organizations.

Filling a Gap in the Conversation

While much of sports content focuses on performance and outcomes, ExpandAbilities addresses areas that are often overlooked but critically important—how athletes think, communicate, and handle adversity.

“We talk a lot about winning, but not enough about how to handle losing, pressure, or even just being a good teammate,” Dolgner said. “That’s the space we’re stepping into.”

Looking Ahead

As the weekly content initiative gains momentum on YouTube, ExpandAbilities is positioning itself as a resource for those looking to develop not just better athletes, but better people.

The goal is not just visibility, but impact—creating a shift in how development is understood and applied across sports and education.

“If we can help one coach communicate better, one athlete handle failure differently, or one student feel more confident—that’s where it starts,” Dolgner said.
